December 01, 2009 - Give Joyful, Give Smart

As moms we we love to buy gifts for family and friends, but we don't stop there. We buy for our extended family, acquaintances, teachers, coaches, co-workers, weddings, bridal showers, kids birthday parties and the list goes on and on.

Since it is fun to give gifts particularly to our loved ones often times it becomes an emotional purchase and nothing can blow a budget faster than an emotional purchase. It is a sad but harsh reality.

This reality inspired me to focus attention on the art of gift giving within a budget. The first step is awareness of what you are actually spending. The second step is determining how much you are willing to commit to spend on gifts. The final step is how you will distribute the money amongst the important people and occasions in your life.

Money Smart Mom has created a Gift List Assistant to make the process of planning for your gift giving easy. The Gift List Assistant is quick and easy to complete and you won?t have to figure out exactly what you will give Aunt Mary on her birthday 5 months from now. You just answer a few, simple questions and the Gift List Assistant will automatically populate your Weekly Savvy Spending System and the Quick Start Budget.
