My finances seemed easy as a single young professional with no children. By the time I was 24 years old I was on a financial roll. I was the Assistant Vice President of a finance company making great money and owned two properties. I was the landlord on one property and lived in the other. Money was never an issue for me. In fact, I felt I had complete control over my money and it was providing a great life for me. I was proud of myself for accomplishing so much at such a young age.
At age 26 I got married and had two children. My finances got a lot more complex at this point. I had a spouse and children to support. I experienced what happens when you have a different view on money than your spouse and found myself continually frustrated and fighting with my spouse about money. I went from making all my own money, all my own decisions and only providing for myself to having a family of four people and trying to make it all work. It didn’t work.
